Agricultural Timber Purlins

Agricultural Timber Purlins

Agricultural Timber Purlins are the horizontal structural timbers used in a load bearing situation in the roof construction of many agricultural and farm buildings.
Since July 2014 the EU Construction Products Regulation (CPR) came into effect which requires the timber used in these situations to meet EU standards on structural timber.

At Brookridge timber we stock a wide range of high quality pressure treated timber purlins all available ex stock and on short lead times.
At Brookridge Timber as well as timber purlins, we stock the complete range of the other timber components required to construct an agricultural building and customers are able to order exact quantities to complete any project.  Details of these products are available on this website.

Grading

All agricultural timber purlins must be strength graded to either C16 or C24 depending on section and load requirement.
The strength grading of timbers is carried out either by visual grading or by machine to British Standard EN 14081 and the timbers are clearly marked with a stamp to show the strength class individual purlins have been graded to.
Graded agricultural timber purlins are CE marked enabling suppliers to issue customers with a Declaration of Performance (DoP) which clearly defines the  criteria used in the grading process.

Treatment

Brookridge Timber offers a variety of pressure treatments through its factory controlled ISO 9001 audited process.
The treatment processes, greatly extends the service life of the timber purlins treating it to user class 3 protecting it from wood decay and insect attack.
Our high pressure treatment process is available in either green or brown and is carried out to meet the User Class requirements of BS8417 the industry code of practice for the preservative treatment of timber.
